Prototype profile: Compact 1U Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) shelf

Compact 1U Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) shelf

This 3D-printed project presents a compact 1U Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) shelf developed for educational and testing purposes within the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter project.

The mechanical design provides a cost-effective platform for standalone test benches, which do not require a complete ATCA shelf. The rear section of the 3D-printed prototype integrates a custom backplane to provide communication and power to the AMC modules inserted.

IdeaSquare as a shortcut between conceptualising and prototyping

Both working on the LHCb calorimeter, Matteo Salomoni and Kacper Jama used IdeaSquare extensively to develop new calorimeter modules that will be installed during the long shutdown 3. In this letter, they explain how crucial it was for them to be able to come and prototype at IdeaSquare for their project.
